Happy Australia Day

January 26th, 2006 by Anthony

On Australia Day we come together as a nation to celebrate what’s great about Australia and being Australian. How did I celebrate the day? Well, I picked up Noemi then headed into the city. Circular Quay & The Rocks were showing the fourth annual free Country Rocks music festival which showcased the finest country music talent from around Australia along with some of the best up-and-comers in the local industry. Not being a country music fan we didn’t hang around long, so we went in search of food. We heard Hyde Park was hosting the ‘MasterFoods Great Australian BBQ’ and various other concerts so off we went to enjoy some nice Aussie beef. After lunch I noticed several classic cars on display surrounding the park, so we took a stroll down Macquarie & College Street which had over 1000 cars on display.

Weblog Publishing

January 20th, 2006 by Anthony

Interested in creating your own blog site, well, you could create your own custom ‘blog’ site with any one of the following personal publishing providers:

www.typepad.com

www.blogger.com

www.blogster.com

www.textpattern.com

www.blosxom.com

www.livejournal.com

www.myspace.com

www.xanga.com

However, before you sign up and waste your hard cold cash check out http://www.anthonypannell.com/www.wordpress.com, I’m currently powered by them and I must say I’m quite pleased with the ease of usability. One of the best features is it’s FREE & WordPress is an Open Source project, which means there are hundreds of people all over the world working on it which also means there are plenty of people to ask in the ’support’ section if you get stuck.

If you think wordpress is surpassed by either one of the aforementioned or one I haven’t included then have your say by posting a comment.

Cheapest Domain Name Registrar

January 20th, 2006 by Anthony

I thought this may help Aussies registering a new domain. Clearly the cheaper option is to sign up with an American registrar, maybe I should start my own domain registering service at competitive rates. If you can find any Aussie sites offering cheaper rates please let me know in the comments and I’ll add it to the list.

All prices are for a registration of a .com domain name, a period of two (2) years and all the below sites were chosen at random.

Aussie Sites

www.ausweb.com.au $49.50

www.cheapdomain.com.au $48.00

www.smartyhost.com.au $38.00

www.hostingbay.com.au $34.00

www.jooster.com $30.00

www.australiacheapdomains.com.au $29.90

www.mdwebhosting.com.au $27.18

www.domaincentral.com.au $25.00

USA Sites USD$ – ($AUD as at xrate 0.746712)

www.dreamhost.com $19.90 (A$26.65)

www.godaddy.com $17.90 (A$23.97)

www.namecheap.com $17.76 (A$23.78)

www.powerpipe.com $15.98 (A$21.40)

www.usdhosting.com $15.70 (A$21.02)

Please note many of these companies offer various specials ie. if you sign up to be hosted by them the domain name is free, etc. Investigate further and you’ll find the one you’re happy with.

Hauntings

January 17th, 2006 by Anthony

While looking for something in my desk draw, I discovered an old folder which contained various artifacts from my youth. There was one item which stood out, a short-story I’d written in primary school ( I was about 12years old) entitled ‘Hauntings’ which I received a mark of “Excellent! 20/20″. I thought I’d share this story with you here.

Hauntings

My family are now living as far as possible from the haunting scenes of our past.
In the sunshine and joy of our new life, with the children and our love for each other, we were trying to forget the anguish of our loveless inheritence.
But the hidden secrets of the past rose up to trouble us again after all that time.
The first sign of haunting was when all of our crops disappeared in less than an hour. The next one was when all of our cows died overnight & all of their throats were cut in exactly the same position. Now, you could say a human could have done this but that seems highly unlikely because there were over a hundred cows and more than a thousand hectares of crops, no human could do that in an hour.
One weekend the rest of my family went on a camping trip while I stayed at home to watch over the property. That night I watched some TV, drained the fridge of food & softdrink, and then after a while I decided to go to bed. I went upstairs to clean my teeth. I opened the bathroom door and walked in, I headed towards the cabinet on the wall. I opened it to find it pitch black. There was no wall, no toothbrush, no nothing. I thought this can’t be right because I couldn’t see the garden out in the backyard either. I lent out the window to view it from the outside to find there was a brick wall there.
Quickly I shut the window and ran to the door but suddenly it swung shut and locked all by itself. I started to shout for help but no one could hear me anyway. I slowly turned around to the black hole in the cabinet. My knees were now shaking and my heart was pumping at a million miles per hour. I started to panic and I didn’t know what to do. All I could do was just stand there, looking into that endless black hole watching and waiting for something to happen.
After a while I got control of myself and moved over to where the shampoo bottles are kept and picked one up in my right hand. Then I threw it into the dark holes waiting to hear it hit the bottom, but there was no noise.
I walked towards the cabinet in fear. Even though I was scared I wanted to know what was in there. As I got closer I could hear noises coming from inisde.
Slowly I raised myself so I could just see in, suddenly something slimy grabbed my hands and I was pulled into the cabinet at the speed of light.
I never saw my family again!
~THE END~

I must of just watched Poltergeist or something! What do you think? Do you believe it was worth 20/20 ?
